1.) What is DiscountSmart?

DiscountSmart is a members-only discount shopping club, providing tremendous savings to consumers as they shop at participating vendor locations. DiscountSmart relies on the buying power of group membership. By creating a group of preferred vendors and promoting their products to the money-conscious members of DiscountSmart, vendors are able to offer their products and services at the best possible price and incrase sales.

2.) How long has DiscountSmart been in business?

DiscountSmart was started in Lino Lakes, Minnesota, in 2008 by a group of friends headed by Charles Dwamina, Wayne Doe and Sando Davis.  

3.) How do I use my DiscountSmart Card?

A valid discountsmart card is presented at a discountsmart preferred vendor location; upon presenting the card, vendors are obligated to honor all advertised discounts as listed on the discountsmart website.

4.) How does one enroll online as a member?

Enrollment is easy. Customers are required to log on to the disountsmart website, click the “Join Now” tab and complete the member registration form. The member will then be assigned a username and password to allow access to the discountsmart website at any given time. (Note: to start using our service one has to secure a DiscountSmart card by purchasing the annual membership, Online purchasing does not require the use of a discountsmart card)

5.) How does one enroll as a vendor?

Vendors are required to submit a vendor registration form online or with a discountsmart agent. The application would need to be approved by discountsmart management. Upon approval the vendor is assigned a username and password. The vendor is required to log on to the discountsmart website, click the “Join Now” tab on and complete the Vendor application form. The vendor will receive a welcome letter which would include a username and password to allow access to the discountsmart website. Vendors are encouraged to update their profile often to list promotions and special ongoing discounts.

6.) Is there a membership fee?

Yes, consumers pay a $20.00 annual membership fee to join discountsmart. Membership fees help to ensure the management of services,  review and posting of member feedback, maintaining the website amongst other things. Currently membership fees are paid annually and under special options (review payment screen) for both vendors and members. Members pay no fee to register and may take advantage of our online preferred vendor services. Vendors pay an annual fee of $60.00 to subscribe to DisountSmart Card Services.

7.) Does DiscountSmart offer trial membership?

We offer 45 day trial period for only vendors. The annual membership fees for preferred vendor services must be made to avoid removal of vendors profile from the discountsmart website. Exceptions are made to our highly rated vendors. Vendors are encouraged to contact our office to discuss membership options.

8.) How do Vendors become preferred vendors?

Members post reviews relating to service received and rank vendor on the scale of 1-5, 5 being superb service (customer service and preferred pricing) this information is reviewed by the Discountsmart team and voted upon. We will communicate with the vendor and conduct other research to determine the vendors’ business practices and relationship with the community. A preferred vendor rating will be submitted by the DiscountSmart team awarding the vendor a preferred status.

9.) What is included in the DiscountSmart membership?

A member will receive:

A discountsmart card that includes the member name and a photo id (optional).

Access to all listed discountsmart vendor services

Preferred discounts at all vendor listed stores

Access to our website and periodic Newsletter

Discounts at all DiscountSmart sponsored events

A discountsmart bumper sticker during your renewal period

Exclusive Invitation to our annual vendor market place event

10.) What types of companies are rated on DiscountSmart?

DiscountSmart rates all its vendors. Vendor’s services are listed by our Discount groupings. The process of rating a vendor is dependent on the membership and the selective response they submit to the Discountsmart website for review by the DiscountSmart team. Therefore all vendors who are part of the Discount Smart vendor program will be rated on the following but not limited to them: Customer service, community involvement, preferred discounts, business ethic, promptness in responding to customer complaints, and service to Discount Smart members.

11.) Why would I use DiscountSmart when I can use my Sam’s Club or Costco card?

The discountsmart card allows you to shop at vendor locations beyond the items you can find at Sam’s Club or Costco. DiscountSmart vendor provide service and sell to our members goods at discounted prices. Majority of the items found at our vendor locations cannot be purchase at a typical Sam’s Club or Costco. Participating vendors carry specialized commodity listing or provide a specialized service. So members benefit from reduced prices and a wide range of goods and services provided by our preferred vendor.

12.) What recourse do I have if a vendor refuses to accept my DiscountSmart Card?

Members are required to call our office at 763-503-4907 to report any refusal by a listed vendor to honor a discount previously advertised on the discountsmart website. We also encourage members to submit a written review on the vendor’s page at www.mydiscountsmart.com .

13.) Will DiscountSmart edit reviews by members before they are posted?

Discountsmart reserves the right to remove/edit all reviews it deems inappropriate to the viewing public or our members and will encourage frank dialog. Members or vendors who abuse the use of this communication medium will be notified and removed and denied access to the DiscountSmart website. All review are posted in real time but can be removed if found to be inappropriate. Other reason for removal of reviews or edits is if the following occur:

The review was fraudulently posted

The member posting the review is part owner or has an interest in the vendor’s business

The review is part of a complaint by a participating member/vendor

14.) Can a DiscountSmart preferred Vendor pay to be reviewed favorable?

No! DiscountSmart will not accept payment for favorable reviews. All reviews submitted are done by members of DiscountSmart. The DiscountSmart team will periodically make recommendations for the use of one vendor service over that of a non member, but will not favor one vendor over the other in its review process. Reviews are done by members’ period!

16.) What is the privacy policy of DiscountSmart?

Discount Smart Card Inc. would leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety of every piece of information you share with us. In fact, we are one of the few card companies that would not ask for your social security number. This would be our policy until our discount cards becomes a major credit card in the near future.

Keeping Your Customer Information Safe

Do not give out your social security number to any vendor.

The use of this card does not require you provide it or show proof of one

Check and pick up your mail regularly so as to minimize being a victim of opportunity stealing.

18.) Can Vendors respond to member reviews?

We encourage vendors to respond to member reviews as this allows members and vendors to receive a fair review when we at DiscountSmart render our preferred vendor ranking.

19.) Is the Discount Smart Website Safe?

The Discount website is encrypted. Your information is protected and all online payments are secure by PayPal Services which is one of the safest ways to make payments online.

20.) Do you have to be a member to submit a vendor review?

Yes. Only members of discount smart who have secured the DiscountSmart card can submit reviews on a vendor. Vendors provide services to those who present a valid discountsmart card when securing service or purchasing goods at the vendor’s location.

21.) How do I use the service of an online preferred vendor?

An online vendor is vendor who does not typically have a physical door front store or address. Most services are provided online. Members are required to log on to the DiscountSmart website, locate the online vendor under the selecting the Discount Group. Review the vendors profile and click on the Vendor banner within the profile page. This opens the Vendor’s external website at which time you may secure your purchase.

22.) Do I need to present a DiscountSmart card when I am purchasing service or goods from an online vendor?

Since all online vendors have no store front and only sell services online, there is no need to present your discountsmart card prior to making a purchase.

23.) Who is an online vendor?

Vendors who provide goods and services only by use of their company website are listed as online vendors.

24.) How do I identify a vendor as being a discountsmart vendor?

All preferred DiscountSmart Vendors carry a label displayed at their store the reads “WE ACCEPT DISCOUNTSMART CARDS HERE”. Members are encoraged to use their valid DiscountSmart card to secure advertised discounts.
